Carn Llechart burial chamber is located on the top of Carn Llechart Mountain northwest of
the village of Pontardawe in the upper Swansea valley (SN 698 063). This magnificent ring cairn consists of
a central rectangular cist orientated 24 degrees west of magnetic north surrounded by a
circular crown approximately 40 ft diameter with 17 flat slabs of rock tilted outwards. The cist has been disturbed with
only three of the rectangular walls remaining. In its original state it probably had a
capstone and was covered by an earth mound. The hummocky ground around the cist shows
evidence of the original mound. Within the circle at the southern end is a small mound of
stones. Approximately half a km northwest of this site down the slope of the mountain are
two stone cairns.
