

Meini Llangynidr Stone Row is located on the Llangynidr mountain (SO 133176) above the village of
Llangynidr in Powys, which is located on the B4558 road between Abergavenny and Brecon.
This stone row is orientated
64 degrees east of magnetic north and is made up of 8 standing stones. The southernmost
stone, stone 1, is recumbent, in a southeast direction, it is 108 inches high, 31 inches
wide and 20 inches thick. Stone 2 is recumbent , in a northwest direction, it is 36 inches
high, 16 inches wide and 6 inches thick. Stone 3 is 30 inches high, 15 inches wide and 7
inches thick. Stone 4 is 22 inches high, 8 inches wide and 6 inches thick. Stone 5 is 9
inches high, 12 inches wide and 4 inches thick. Stone 6 is 14 inches high, 7 inches wide
and 5 inches thick. Stone 7 is 38 inches high, 20 inches wide and 8 inches thick. Stone
8 is 13 inches high, 15 inches wide and 6 inches thick. This stone unlike the others is orientated east-west.
The stones are derived from the local carboniferous limestone which make up much of
Llangynidr mountain. The area around the stone row has a number of cairns
and the remains of house platforms indicating a thriving local community at the time of construction.
