HAROLD'S STONES

Harold's Stones looking south-east.

Harold's Stones are a Bronze Age row of three large menhirs located in a field near the village of Trellech in Gwent (SO499051).The row is aligned N 54 degrees E. All three stones are derived from the local conglomerate rock and grade upward in height towards the south. The northernmost stone is 97 inches high, 41 inches wide and 15 inches thick. The middle stone is 124 inches high, 32 inches wide and 22 inches thick it has two cup marks on its southern side. The southernmost stone is 160 inches high, 42 inches wide and 32 inches thick. It leans in a south-east direction and is orientated N 112 degrees E. The middle stone is 15 ft from the northernmost stone and 20 ft from the southernmost stone.
